What is Spray Foam Attic Insulation?

Spray Foam Attic InsulationAir moves in and out of a home through every hole, crack, and crevice. Air exchange in and out of a home is a common cause of high energy bills. An advanced insulation system like ENERTITE® spray foam can rectify this problem. Spray foam insulation seals the building envelope to stop warm indoor air from escaping and prevent cold outdoor air from entering.

By properly sealing your home, you reduce the amount of energy that is needed to produce electricity and the carbon emitted into the environment. ENERTITE® provides a sealed thermal and airtight layer, eliminating heat loss and creating a comfortable and healthier indoor environment.

Spray foam insulation is also perfect for attic spaces and basements where space is at a premium. You can use a thinner layer of spray foam than earthwool, for example, while still adding a large benefit from increased R-value.

Installation

ENERTITE® is installed by our trained team to ensure that installation is carried out in line with the appropriate insulation and ventilation regulation requirements.

All you need to do in advance is clear out the attic space where we’ll be spray foaming.  First of all, we will open all windows while we spray to ensure any odours will escape.  Then we install card and roof ventilation to ensure that your spray foam is breathable.  There is only a small bit of noise and we’ll ensure to cover the floor with plastic sheeting to avoid mess, and we always clean up after ourselves.  Most attics are complete in 1-2 days.

Spray foam insulation is hypoallergenic and completely inert when installed.  There is no maintenance required and one application should last the entire life time of the building.

Best of all, you’ll feel the difference overnight in the warmth of your house.

Technical Information

ENERTITE® open cell spray foam insulation is a water blown polyurethane foam with a thermal conductivity of 0.037 W/mk. It can be installed as an independent product to achieve regulatory U-Values and airtightness requirements in most construction buildups. It provides a cost effective, fully breathable insulation solution.

BASF ENERTITE NSAI

ENERTITE® can be installed between rafters to the required thickness in order to provide a particular level of insulation or U-Value. The open cell spray foam can be sprayed proud of the roof rafter to the desired thickness or can be cut flush with the adjacent timbers to allow for plasterboard fixing.

As with all insulation types ENERTITE® can be applied to breathable roofing felts when a counter batten is present above the felt and below the tile / slate batten in accordance with Irish and UK Building Regulations. This allows for the necessary ventilation layer above the vapour permeable roofing felt. In circumstances where the roof is not “counter-battened” it is necessary to install rafter slide to the underside of the felt. This effectively provides a separation layer between the foam and felt to allow for ventilation as required by regulation.
